Miss America: Countdown to the Crown episode 2 recap
Miss America: Countdown to the Crown episode 2
Original Air Date: 01/09/2009
The show has barely started and I’m already born. Apparently, the point of the swimsuit portion of the pageant was originally based to show the physical fitness of each contestant. Um…OK. The guy who rattles off the rules of the obstacle course is crazy annoying and I can’t imagine why he was chosen for this job. He seriously makes me want to forget about this show.
There are several teams and too much perkiness for my taste.
Oh, god. Annoying guy is going to narrate the entire obstacle course. Is this really happening? Some of the girls are worried because they aren’t as fit as others, but there isn’t anyone who is lagging way behind. The pink team is far behind the red team, who end up winning this challenge (this is the Miss America pageant; isn’t the entire thing a challenge?!). Next up are the two remaining teams (we’re talking 52 girls, so there are a lot of teams) and the purple team has the first injury. It’s Miss Kansas (sorry, I didn’t get her real name) and she hurt her back after landing on it. The annoying guy (hopefully we’ll find out his name soon enough) runs around shouting, “Medic! Medic! We need a medic!” How about you bother to help her out, buddy?
For the next round, it’s the green team that wins, and yes, there are still TWO MORE teams. This show is losing me BIG TIME! I guess I didn’t miss much last week, if it was anything like this. TLC has got to get rid of this guy. He’s making the entire show even more obnoxious. In the end, the blue team wins the entire thing.
I don’t really understand these “individual challenges.” The girls seem smart and quite together, and these challenges are really hokey for them.
The next challenge involves the girls modeling their swimsuits. They’re clad in their team colors and looks as gorgeous as ever. Two wild cards will be chosen from this challenge. Shakara is teaching them how to work the runway in a swimsuit and I guess as a Sports Illustrated model she’s qualified for this?
Shakara’s pointers for walking in a swimsuit?
- Confience.
- Keep your shoulders back.
- Take long strides.
Miss Nevada goes first and does a good job, but moves her lips a little too much. Shakara is seeing the pony kick time and time again with the contestants, and it’s a major faux pas for models in high fashion. Miss Washington is hesitant on the catwalk because of a large scar she has. Miss Alabama looks amazing on the catwalk, and I also love her personality. She’s confident and smart and I have a strong feeling she’s going to end up in the finals when it comes time for the real deal.
Miss Washington wins a wild card for the swimsuit competition, as does Miss Arkansas. Both girls are surprised and thrilled. Miss North Dakota wins the last wild card, and that evening they’ll compete again (pretty stupid, imho) for the same judges.
The next challenge isn’t quite the same, but it practically is. The girls will walk down the runway and pose for a photographer at the end. Miss Alaska does horrible striping this weird post at the end, as does Miss Arkansas. It’s a little too much and more stripper in that metallic swimsuit. Shakara likes that it’s something different, but I’m not buying it. Miss Georgia’s walk is relaxed, which makes her look incredibly confident!
Miss Arkansas says she’s glad she doesn’t have her makeup bag with her because she’s afraid she’ll just pile more and more on. Honey, I’m glad that thing is away from you because you have PLENTY of makeup on!
Right now my faves are Miss Indiana, Miss Georgia and Miss Alabama (yes, still). They’re all beautiful and seem smart, competent and like someone we would actually like if we met irl.
Miss Georgia, Miss Kentucky, and Miss Mississippi win this challenge, which will put them in running to win a gold sash. Miss Kentucky is out, as is Miss Misssissippi, leaving Miss Georgia as the winner of the gold sash. I’m so excited for her! Winning a gold sash puts her in the final 15 at the Miss America pageant. Sort of nerve wracking, and also sort of weird that a zillion year old tradition has been reduced to a reality television show.
Next week: the girls go shopping, some drama and What Not to Wear’s Clinton Kelly makes an appearance!
