Style Network Ruby recap “Denny Returns”

I don’t know the back story to all of this, but apparently Denny gave Ruby the boot and told her that they would have married if it weren’t for her weight. Sounds like a real quality guy, eh?

Ruby is about three months into her makeover at this point, and Denny has decided to pop back into the picture. She describes him as the love of her life and says they were together for eight years.

It took Ruby three long years to get over him. I am hoping they do not get into things all over again. It will be a lot for Ruby to deal with, and also might put a damper on all of the headway she’s made. I want Ruby to tell him to take a freaking hike, but she’s such a doll that we all know that won’t happen.

Denny seems to think they can get back together because Ruby’s finally shedding the weight. Georgia and Jeff (Ruby’s roomies) are reluctant to let him back into Ruby’s life. They’re both worried, but as Ruby points out, Denny was such a large part of her life for so long that it’s impossible to shake him in some ways (though she claims she is over him).

Denny shows up on his Harley and Ruby is already growing nostalgic. She’s ready to hop on the bike with Denny and feel the way she used to on his Harley. She says it’s the excitement she longs for because it makes her forget she’s fat for a few moments in time.

Jeff and Georgia have at it with Denny when the two arrive at the house. I can see how her friends would feel this way, but they are stepping on toes here. They can’t make Ruby’s decisions for her. She’s an adult and she has to make up her own mind. Denny feels that Jeff and Georgia are attacking hi. I can see everyone’s perspective, but I don’t think Denny is right for Ruby. He might love her, but is it the type of healthy love that Ruby needs?

Denny and Ruby are out at a restaurant and he has to tie her sneaker for her. A few idiots are snickering in the background. I don’t see how Denny doesn’t go over there and tear those dummies a new one! Ruby feels he finally will take up for her, and that’s something she wanted for a long time when they were together. Ruby straight out asks Denny, “Would you have left me if I were skinny?” and he says, “Definitely not. We would have gotten married.” WTH?! Oh, god. How can he say this so to her in such a simple way? And why does she listen to it?

I know it’s difficult for her to see the real Denny, but I think part of Ruby’s transformation is getting her to see that more easily. She’s come to terms with things and knows that Denny is only around if she’s thin. She tells him that she wants someone who can love her just for her, with or without the weight. Good for her!

At home Ruby tells Jeff how things went on her “date” with Denny, and he’s glad to hear it. She had an awesome day with Denny and she feels Denny loves her as much as he can love her, but that’s not the way she needs to be loved. She describes herself and finally falling in love with herself. And that has to happen before anyone can be in love with her.
