Allure Backstage Beauty S/S 08

by Samantha on March 4th, 2008

Daisy Fuentes and Allure Editor-in-Chief, Linda Wells, host this awesome show on Style Network. Together they count down the top 8 beauty trends of S/S 08.

  1. Matte skin- flawless skin is achieved by applying foundation and finishing it with a dense brush dipped in loose powder to “seal” the look.  This touches on the airiness of spring, and the light feminine fabrics used for spring and summer looks.
  2. Gold eyeshadow- Gold eyeshadow is great for night, and can totally work for day when paired with a bit of brown. The idea is to keep it in the crease to create a severe glow from the eyes.
  3. Black liner- Deliberately black liner was huge on the runways. Smudged, heavy eyes are achieved by using a gel liner that is applied quickly and then slightly smeared. Liquid liner works best with a clean eye, but keep it heavy to reach the level of drama.
  4. The messy up-do- Hairstyles were loosened in texture and style. Super polished makeup calls for a messy bun. To get this look, use bobby pins and mousse. Let hair air dry with a bit of mousse, and use bobby pins to put the hair up in a loose style.
  5. The tough pink lip- At Burberry we saw a pale pink lip that was tougher than usual by first applying a layer of foundation to the lips to tone down the natural pinkness. On top of this, swipe a true pink lipstick to create a matte pink lip that is super fresh.
  6. Deep red lip- to coincide with the artsy vibe throughout the shows, the dark red lip was shown with an intensity that contrasted the femininity of the collections.
  7. The classic red lip- Makeup artists updated the classic red lip at the S/S 08 shows by incorporating an orange tone, and topping it with a gloss for that finished look that looks as if you lead the ultimate glamorous life.
  8. Textured hair- If you don’t already have perfectly straight hair, you’re in luck! This season, the runways were filled with messy, tousled hair. Use mousse, a texturizer, and your good ol’ hands to create movement and a shot of sexy.
  9. Colorful eye shadow- Bright colors and a lot of glitter were used to paint the eyes. Implement colors like violet, pink, blue and green to get eyes that stand out. Use a sheer wash of color to start out, and work your way up to more pigment.

Now there were only eight trends shown, but I got nine? I’m not sure why, as they ran the three lip trends together…sort of? Regardless, get out there and experiment! I’m sick of everyone wearing the same eye shadow look (you know the one: neutral shadow, contour color, obnoxiously shimmery highlighter), so I’m anxious to see if these trends catch on for the masses.
