Gunn’s top picks.

On a nice little commercial done by Bravo, Tim Gunn gives us a quick rundown of essentials:

1. A classic watch. Nothing gimmicky or trendy, but something timeless (pun intended).

One of my favorite classic watches of all time is the Cartier La Dona. The silhouette is feminine and regal, and the face has a sort of heaviness that balances it from being too girly (which a lot high end watches can do).

2. A great bag in a neutral color.

Neutral can mean a lot of things these days. Navy, grey, and even various shades of red can serve as a neutral. A great bag wardrobe should ideally consist of one black or chocolate, and one pop neutral.  I really think the idea of classic bag has a lot to do with personal style. Classic can be the Hermes Birkin or a Balenciaga City. I’m a massive fan of the latter.

3. A great pump in black or brown.

Pumps are great all around, and if you are only getting one ideal pair, I’d definitely go with black. You can always incorporate brown through other accessories.  Christian Louboutins are a great way to go for both comfort and classic style. While nearly all Louboutins are classic, a black pair in the Simple Pumps or Decolletes will serve as your go-to pair for years.
