Here’s a new preview airing on Bravo to get us all amped up about season 5.
I enjoy this show, I really do. But is it too much to ask that the winner (or any of the participants, really) not have SO much background as a designer?Besides Jay and Christian, all of the winners already had a successful background as fashion designers. Great, but this sure makes for semi-boring television, so this season I hope we have a super fresh face (a la Christian!) to wow us from beginning to end.
I caught a repeat of Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style (they’re repeating it on Slice in Canada), and I have to stress, once again, that Gunn is a master at the modern art of the TV makeover. He just makes people feel so great about themselves and their choices. I love that he and Veronica never put people down, but instead teach them why what they’re wearing isn’t what suits them best. Remember you can think a garment is hideous, but the truth is, it probably just isn’t right for you.
Think of all of fashion greats out there who are able to pull off some pretty terrible articles of clothing, but look fab doing it (SJP,Anna Piagi, and Dita Von Teese all come to mind). The point is, there’s something out there for all of us, it’s just sometimes we need a bit of help getting there.
More Guide to Styles air all this month on Slice, but when seems to be a bit of an issue. I just catch it at random times, but there must be some sort of method to the madness, so when I found out, so will you!
Taryn Davidson is your typical 17 year old Canadian girl. She likes hanging out with her friends, playing hockey (yes, I’ve seen footage and she’s pretty hardcore), and going to school. Only school has to be cut short at times because Davidson is jetting around the globe walking in up to 45 fashion shows a season between the four major cities (New York, London, Milan and Paris). Amazing, eh?
Davidson has walked in shows for Chanel, Lanvin and Alexander McQueen. With this healthy resume, I doubt it’s long before we see Davidson strutting her stuff for an haute couture show.
The crazy part? Davidson was discovered after one of her sisters tried to pursue modeling and an agent ran across Davidson in the hall. Oh, it always happens that way, no?
When you’re in a hurry (and who isn’t?), consider this super quick and easy makeup tip from a makeup artist who recently appeared on Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style.
Instead of bothering with eyes, blush, lipstick and the whole nine yards, amp up your face with bronzer. After applying your foundation (and covering blemishes and redness), take a large brush and simply swoosh around a bronzer a shade darker than your own skintone. It used to be impossible to find anything but very, very tan bronzer, but now there’s shimmery peaches, and light golden colors out the ying-yang, so hit up Sephora and peruse the endless options of bronzers that are on the market.
One of my faves is Sephora’s own Luminous Trio, which is a knockoff (and far friendlier-on-the-wallet version) of Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick which retails at about double the price. Both have a few colors, making it great for blending in to any skin tone and ideal for layering when you’re on vacation, or using in a sparing manner when you’re at the office.
Roberto Cavalli is typically known for dressing women to the nines with plunging necklines, animal prints and sky high hemlines. The S/S 08 collection was a pretty severe departure for Mr. Cavalli, and on a recent episode of Fashion Television, they covered the show, which hit on two key trends that did indeed catch on for spring and summer of this year: the color white and the maxi dress.
The dresses were long and flowing, while muted colors like lilac, taupe and periwinkle took over. It was definitely a softer side for the label most frequently associated with the sex bomb-type.
During a recent repeat of Gossip Girl, I caught a new preview for CW’s fall show, Stylista. Remember this is the show put together by the CW and Elle magazine, in which magazine editor-hopefuls all claw their way Devil-Wears-Prada style to the top of the fashion ladder.
I thought that Elle editor Anne Slowey came off a lot more human in the preview, unlike her appearances on the YouTube uploaded videos a couple of months ago. Whether Slowey is mean as a dog or sugar sweet doesn’t matter…I’m just ready to see some styling mishaps which turn into major drama.
Shear Genius has finally kicked off in Canada, which means we’re only a few episodes behind the U.S. shows. Host Jacklyn Smith is as saucy as ever (I’m not sure of her age, but she sure is gorgeous!), and the contestants seem to be a handful.
I watched season 1 of Shear Genius off-and-on, mostly at the end, when the show was down to six or so contestants. Having just watched Superstar Hair Challenge, I found the Canadian series far more interesting than Shear Genius. I thought the challenges were harder, and the contestants more talented…of course I’m still going to give season 2 of SG a try!
For our American readers who already have the dirt, can you give us any insight on season 2 of Shear Genius? People you love, people you hate, and challenges to watch for?
I usually hate posting a video when only one (or some) parts have been uploaded to YouTube. But I had to share this one because it gives you such a taste of the show that I had to post it!
Love Kim Vo and I hope he’s on the show every episode! He always cracks me up when he comes on The Daily 10 on E!
OK, I know so far I’m pretty anti-Anne, but that might be because the clips we’ve seen of the CW’s Stylista are so horribly cut. Maybe the director/show is making her out to be a bigger meanie than she is?
